EWS (Electronic Immobilizer System) module in BMW vehicles, primarily found from 1995 to early 2005, is designed to prevent unauthorized engine start. It communicates with the key and engine control unit (ECU) to ensure that only a valid, coded key can start the vehicle, enhancing vehicle security.

Typically when the EWS fails it can be identified by: 

• No vehicle crank
• Vehicle not accepting the key
• Vehicle starts and stalls
• EWS Related codes
